Ministry
Our campus ministry has several important facets: Fellowship and Fun, Worship, Issues of Life and Faith, Community Projects, Counseling, Congregational Ministry and Study of Scripture.
Our ministry is particularly Lutheran and profoundly ecumenical. Many of our activities at Trinity House are shared with Rutgers Protestant Campus Ministries; other activities are shared with Rutgers Catholic Center and various groups.
The times for our various ministries are listed under Schedule/Events.
Fellowship and Fun
Food and conversation are an important part of our life together at Trinity House. We enjoy gathering to eat regularly, as well as on speical occasions. Trinity House is our Campus Ministry Hospitality Center. That means God put us here to invite people in and then really, honestly to care for each other.
Worship
Everything we do together flows out of worshiping God -- our projects, meals, discussions, everything. We often worship using the Daily Prayer of the church, especially before lunch on Mondays and Thursdays, and with Evening Prayer on Wednesdays. We have Holy Communion on Sundays at All Saints' Lutheran Church. Especially when it's hard to pray, we are praying people.
Issues of Life and Faith
When we face issues of real life from a Christian perspective, we grow in faith. We focus our discussions on this Wednesday evenings when we work with various speakers and various projectsthis includes everything from science and theology to Middle East crises. We also enjoy "Reel Christianity" -- great movies we show at the Graduate Student Lounge of the Rutgers Student Center.
Community Projects
We have been glad to serve food at Elijahs Promise Soup Kitchen and to do common labor for refurbishing houses with Habitat for Humanity. These and other projects are not on a regular schedule, so watch for email messages and other announcements of these activities.
Counseling
Pastor Larson is available to talk to students individually about issues that are spiritual, academic, personal or whatever concerns students may have. Email or call him any time: pastor@rutgersministry.org or 732-745-9985.
Congregational Ministry
We focus our participation in congregational life at All Saints' Lutheran Church in Piscataway, where the Rev. Linda Larson is pastor (yes, her husband is the Rev. John Larson, our campus ministry pastor). For opportunities at additional congregations, see the information below on Nearby Lutheran Churches.
Study of Scripture
As it should be, the Bible is a large part of our ministry. We especially study it on Wednesday afternoons at Trinity House and on Sunday mornings at All Saints' Lutheran Church. In this study we open ourselves to hear what God is saying through Holy Scripture about specific situations that concern us.
